Theo Janssen urges Koeman to start Guus Til

Former Dutch international Theo Janssen told that Guus Til should be given a starting role in the Netherlands national team, arguing the side lacks a true number‑ten and that Til’s off‑the‑ball work would add balance to the midfield.

Janssen says the Dutch midfield is overly homogeneous, declaring “hundred percent” that they have too many of the same type. He explained that the current set‑up includes a control midfielder and two attacking midfielders.

He argues that Reijnders and Gravenberch are not true attacking midfielders but pure runners. Janssen describes them as “echt lopers” (real runners).

Janssen advises Ronald Koeman to select a genuine number ten, naming Kluivert or Guus Til as options. He notes that Til makes many “vuile meters” and deep runs without the ball.

He claims the present midfield is too static and predictable, moving only when they receive the ball. Janssen proposes that the partnership of Brian Brobbey and Til would best match their playing styles.

Janssen also sees potential in pairing Donyell Malen with Til, calling Malen a “running attacker”. He says Til could exploit open attacking spaces in that combination. He repeats his plea for Til to start, emphasizing the need for that type of player in a 5‑3‑2 system.
