Tom Vandenberghe poised to leave KAA Gent for Zulte Waregem

🇧🇪

Tom Vandenberghe, the 33‑year‑old goalkeeper of KAA Gent, is expected to leave the Belgian side for Zulte Waregem this summer. Gent holds a contract with him until June 2027 and retains a club option for an additional year, but the club is prepared to release him.

Zulte Waregem announced that defender Louis Bostyn will remain at the club for another season. The club also secured 18‑year‑old midfielder Florian Van Bever with a fresh contract. In the same period, goalkeeper Ennio van der Gouw departed from Zulte Waregem.

Earlier this winter, four players – Franck Surdez, Stefan Mitrovic, Bram Lagae and Tom Vandenberghe – did not travel to the winter training camp. Their absence signalled that a solution for the goalkeeper’s future was being sought.

Gent’s contract with Vandenberghe runs until June 2027 and includes a club option for an extra year. The club, nicknamed the Buffalo’s, is prepared to let the experienced goalkeeper depart this summer. Gent is reportedly not resisting his exit.

Vandenberghe previously played for KV Kortrijk from 2022 to 2025 after spells at Deinze, Sparta Petegem and Deerlijk, and he began his youth career at Zulte Waregem. Transfermarkt lists his market value at €250,000.

Zulte Waregem, often referred to as the Kerels and officially called Essevee, have shown interest in adding Vandenberghe to strengthen their goalkeeping options. The move would reunite the goalkeeper with the club where he spent his formative years.
