Toni Kroos and Rio Ferdinand back Jude Bellingham

Toni Kroos and Rio Ferdinand have publicly backed Jude Bellingham, who has endured heavy media criticism over his last two seasons at Real Madrid, a club that has gone trophyless for two consecutive campaigns despite fielding one of Europe’s strongest squads. Real Madrid have not lifted any trophies in the past two seasons, a stark contrast to the quality of their squad. Managers Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa have all left the club after these disappointing campaigns. The lack of silverware has also intensified scrutiny on the team’s marquee players, including Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. Jude Bellingham’s performances have similarly been described as dwindling, attracting further media criticism. In his podcast, Toni Kroos described Bellingham as “one of the most complete midfielders in the world” and recalled that “his first year in Madrid was incredible”. He added that the German midfielder “really surprised me”. Rio Ferdinand argued that the press has “tried to paint a picture of him that doesn’t match reality” and praised Bellingham’s “very, very special qualities”. He asserted that “he’s going to write his own story and create his own legacy”. Despite the two under‑whelming seasons, Bellingham still possesses the attributes to rank among Europe’s elite midfielders. His technical and physical qualities remain highly regarded by former professionals. The turbulence surrounding Real Madrid, coupled with Bellingham’s injury setbacks, has hampered his output. The club’s new project under incoming coach Jose Mourinho is expected to revive his form and help the Merengues return to winning ways.
