Union SG near sixth summer signing: South African winger Mofokeng
Union Saint‑Gilloise are on the verge of completing their sixth summer signing as 21‑year‑old South African winger Relebohile Mofokeng prepares for a medical at the Parc Duden, with a transfer fee estimated at a minimum of three million euros this season.
Union Saint‑Gilloise have already secured five summer arrivals: Nikki Havenaar, Darius Olaru, Ilan Hurtevent, Nohim Chibani and Ondrej Kricfalusi. The club’s summer spending already tops nine million euros, while only Christian Burgess and Guillaume François have left officially.
The 21‑year‑old winger leaves Orlando Pirates after winning the league, having contributed ten goals and eight assists last season. His versatility across the front line offers Union new attacking options.
Mofokeng featured for South Africa at the 2026 World Cup in North America, playing three matches under coach Hugo Broos. The Bulls were knocked out in the round of 16 by Canada, a match decided by an Eustaquio goal in added time.
Orlando Pirates confirmed his departure pending a medical examination, and the player was also linked with AS Monaco. Union accelerated the process to prevent other clubs from intercepting the transfer.
With Guilherme Smith’s contract extended until 2030, Mofokeng will provide competition on the left flank. The club expects to finalise the deal quickly if the medical goes smoothly.
Should the tests be passed, Union Saint‑Gilloise are likely to announce Mofokeng’s signing in the coming weeks, adding depth to their attacking roster.
