Vinícius Júnior's brace lifts Brazil to 3-0 win over Scotland

Brazil secured a 3-0 victory over Scotland at the World Cup, with Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior netting two goals and Matheus Cunha adding the third, propelling the South American side to the top of Group C in their final group match. The opening goal came after a defensive lapse by Scotland’s Scott McKenna, who lost possession to Rayan, allowing Vinícius Júnior to receive the ball and outwit goalkeeper Angus Gunn. The Real Madrid forward calmly slotted the ball past Gunn to give Brazil a 1‑0 lead. A second attempt by Vinícius was ruled out by VAR when his foot struck Jack Hendry’s shin during the build‑up. The decision erased what would have been a quick double for the Brazilian winger. Just before halftime Matheus Cunha struck from a wide position, but his effort was cleared from the line. Moments later Vinícius headed a cross over Gunn to score his second goal of the night, restoring Brazil’s advantage. In the second half, midfielder Bruno Guimarães orchestrated play before Matheus Cunha calmly finished to make it 3‑0. Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s side maintained control, sealing the win with the third goal. Neymar entered the field fifteen minutes before full‑time, receiving his first minutes of the match. The 34‑year‑old attacker replaced a teammate as Brazil closed out the game. The 3‑0 result placed Brazil atop Group C on goal difference ahead of Morocco, guaranteeing a knockout‑stage pairing with the second‑placed team from Group F, which includes the Netherlands. Ancelotti’s side will therefore face the Group F runner‑up in the next round. Scotland finished third in Group C and remains in contention for advancement, pending the outcomes of other matches. Their position leaves them dependent on the remaining results to secure a place in the knockout phase.
