Wesley ruled out, Ederson called up for Brazil World Cup
Brazil has confirmed that defender Wesley will miss the World Cup after sustaining an injury in the 2-1 friendly win over Egypt on Saturday. The injury forced Wesley off the pitch and led to his late withdrawal from the squad.
Ederson will replace Wesley in Brazil’s World Cup roster. The 26-year-old midfielder, who has three Brazil caps, is set to sign for Manchester United after a £39 million move from Atalanta, with a contract running to 2030. His arrival marks Michael Carrick’s first permanent signing as Manchester United manager.
Danilo is the most likely starter at right-back for Brazil following Wesley’s exit. Roger Ibanez noted that centre-back cover could also be sourced if needed. Across other nations, Argentina’s Leonardo Balerdi, Paraguay’s Julio Enciso and Germany’s Lennart Karl have all been ruled out by injury.
Carlo Ancelotti said losing Wesley is a shame but the team has good replacements. He added that the starting line‑up for the upcoming match against Morocco has been decided and that the team left the friendly with more certainty than doubt.
