Westerlo’s summer turnover: Piedfort departs as new talent arrives

🇧🇪

Arthur Piedfort, the 21‑year‑old Belgian defensive midfielder, has secured a move to French Ligue 2 side Auxerre for an estimated €6 million, becoming the third Westerlo starter to leave this summer after Nacho Ferri and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh. "I am happy that I can sign for a family club like Auxerre," Piedfort said, adding that he brings passion and hopes to help the club enjoy a good season.

Nacho Ferri, the 21‑year‑old Spanish forward, departed Westerlo for Feyenoord for a reported fee of €8‑10 million after scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in his lone season. Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, the 24‑year‑old Iranian winger, had already moved on, having contributed 14 goals and 13 assists in 84 appearances for Westerlo.

To offset the exodus, Westerlo announced the signing of David Amegnaglo, a 21‑year‑old French attacker from German youth side Freiburg, on a four‑year contract. Amegnaglo is praised for his speed, dribbling skill and versatility in attack, and is expected to add significant potential to the Kemphanen squad.

The club also reinforced its defence by acquiring 20‑year‑old German centre‑back Reno Münz from Greuther Fürth on a four‑year deal, and 26‑year‑old Belgian goalkeeper Bill Lathouwers from RWDM Brussels on a four‑season contract, indicating a broader rebuilding strategy.

These contrasting moves—key departures versus strategic arrivals—highlight Westerlo’s intent to refresh its roster while maintaining competitiveness for the upcoming Jupiler Pro League campaign.
