Why VfL Bochum targets Oud‑Ajacied Rasmussen for 2. Bundesliga revival
Oud‑Ajacied Rasmussen has signed for VfL Bochum as the club prepares for another season in the 2. Bundesliga, a move confirmed through official channels. The 23‑year‑old Christian Rasmussen will be active in Germany’s second tier, offering a fresh option after Bochum’s recent relegation.
Bochum’s drop from the Bundesliga came as the club finished as the bottom team, prompting a clear need for attacking reinforcement. Afgelopen seizoen eindigde Bochum in de middenmoot van de 2. Bundesliga, underscoring the desire to improve immediately. The club hopes Rasmussen’s experience can help reverse that trend.
Rasmussen joined Ajax in 2019 from the Deense FC Nordsjaelland, signing a contract that saw the Amsterdammers pay three million euro for his services. He struggled to become a big success in Amsterdam, featuring in 25 first‑team matches, scoring twice and providing two assists under trainer Francesco Farioli.
The Dutch forward was later sold to Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he encountered director Sven Mislintat; the club endured a disastrous season and could not avoid relegation to the third level. De club faced a disastrous season, and Rasmussen therefore left on a free transfer to join VfL Bochum.
Now in Germany, Rasmussen will aim to add depth and versatility to Bochum’s attack as they target an immediate return to the top flight. Adjusting to a new environment and competing for a starting place will be his first obstacles in the upcoming campaign.
