Yari Verschaeren rejects Sampdoria offer, seeks new club
Yari Verschaeren, the 22‑year‑old Belgian midfielder, has turned down a new offer from Sampdoria, preferring to wait for a more attractive sporting project. His current contract with RSC Anderlecht runs until summer 2026, but the club will not extend it, and his market value is estimated at around five million euros.
According to La Dernière Heure, Jesper Fredberg, the former CEO of Sports at Anderlecht, acted as Sampdoria’s sport director to lure Verschaeren to the Italian side. Fredberg, a Danish national, sees Verschaeren as an ideal reinforcement for a club aiming to return to Serie A.
Verschaeren was born on 12 July 2001 and completed his entire youth development at Anderlecht. He made his first‑team debut in 2018 and quickly earned a reputation as one of Belgium’s top talents of his generation.
The offensive midfielder can operate centrally or on either flank, and he has already earned several caps for the Belgian senior national team. He also featured prominently in Belgium’s youth squads, contributing to their recent campaigns.
Despite suffering a few serious injuries, Anderlecht continued to trust his potential. The club’s home ground, Lotto Park, will see him depart when his contract expires.
Several clubs have already inquired about his situation. However, no agreement has been reached so far.
Sampdoria finished thirteenth in Serie B last season and is eager to regain promotion to the top tier. Fredberg hoped to repeat a previous Anderlecht‑to‑Sampdoria transfer by signing the former academy graduate.
At 24, Verschaeren says he will choose his next step carefully, valuing both playing time and development prospects. He remains determined to find a club that matches his ambitions rather than accept any offer.
