Zlatan Ibrahimovic hails Lamine Yamal as world’s best

Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic praised Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world after the 18‑year‑old scored the opening goal for Spain in their 4‑0 Group H victory over Saudi Arabia at Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday, becoming the second player aged 18 or younger to open‑score a World Cup match, alongside Pelé. Yamal opened the scoring ten minutes in, sliding cleanly at the far post to finish a cross from Mikel Oyarzabal. A previous hamstring injury limited his involvement to the first half, but his half‑time display tore the Saudi defence apart. Speaking to FOX Sports via Mundo Deportivo, Ibrahimovic said, “He is the best player in the world. He’s a special player.” He added that Yamal creates a dangerous opportunity every time he receives the ball, regardless of the number of defenders. Former England striker Wayne Rooney also voiced admiration for Yamal’s performance against Saudi Arabia. Rooney’s comments further underline the teenager’s rapid rise on the international stage. Yamal’s goal made him only the second player aged 18 or younger to open‑score a World Cup match, joining Brazilian legend Pelé in that distinction. Spain’s 4‑0 win secured a strong start in Group H of the tournament. The match took place at Atlanta Stadium, part of the FIFA World Cup Group H fixtures. Spain’s dominant performance set the tone for their campaign, with Yamal’s contribution highlighted by pundits worldwide. The victory placed Spain in a commanding position ahead of their next group game.
