€35m price tag drives Atletico Madrid’s push for Kang‑in Lee
Atletico Madrid are on the brink of securing South Korean attacker Kang‑in Lee from Paris Saint‑Germain, with a €35 million valuation now on the table after personal terms through June 2031 have been agreed in recent talks, reports transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Personal terms between Lee and Atletico Madrid have been settled, leaving only the clubs to agree on the fee structure. Both sides are now focusing on how the €35 million valuation will be split between a guaranteed base fee and performance‑related add‑ons.
Atletico’s interest in Lee dates back to a winter approach when the club first contacted Paris Saint‑Germain, which at the time rejected any sale. Negotiations were revived in June and have progressed much more quickly this time around.
Lee, 24, developed in Spain with Valencia and Real Mallorca before joining Paris Saint‑Germain in 2023. His desire to return to La Liga has been widely reported, and Spanish reports say he has already reached a personal agreement on a contract lasting until June 2031.
Paris Saint‑Germain have placed Lee’s market value at roughly €35 million, while earlier Spanish reports suggested a €25–30 million range. The gap likely reflects the difference between a guaranteed base fee and additional bonuses.
Atletico Madrid’s ability to meet the fee fits within a broader summer recruitment plan that includes planned player sales to free up budget. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed a separate deal earlier this week, underscoring Diego Simeone’s side is moving with purpose.
Paris Saint‑Germain’s initial reluctance to sell in January has softened, as Lee enters the final two years of his current contract at the Parc des Princes. With the player’s preference for Spain, the French club has limited leverage, and a €35 million total valuation is seen as a workable outcome.
The remaining step is finalising the fee structure, after which medical examinations and a formal announcement could follow swiftly. Spanish outlet and other media have described the deal as increasingly inevitable given the alignment of Lee’s wishes and Atletico’s recruitment targets.
