£55m Liverpool signing Jeremy Jacquet poised for pre‑season start
Jeremy Jacquet's £55 million transfer to Liverpool, with potential add‑ons of up to £5 million, has been confirmed as the French U21 centre‑back prepares for the start of pre‑season training. The five‑year contract, agreed in January, positions him among Liverpool’s defensive options for the upcoming campaign.
The 20‑year‑old suffered a shoulder injury shortly after the agreement but has successfully completed a rehabilitation programme. He is now undertaking individual fitness work to regain full match readiness.
Jacquet is slated to join manager Andoni Iraola’s group when Liverpool players return on 14 July. The squad will then travel to the United States on 20 July for a pre‑season tour.
Learning from a legend: Jacquet on joining Van Dijk at Liverpool
Speaking after his recovery, Jacquet said, “I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here and I am very excited to get started.” He added that playing for Liverpool is “a big dream” for him. At Anfield, Jacquet will compete with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Geovanni Leoni for centre‑half duties. Their ranks were reshaped after Ibrahima Konate left the club on contract expiry to join Real Madrid. Leoni’s debut at Anfield was cut short by an ACL injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The 19‑year‑old Italian continues his fitness and rehabilitation work.
