Allegri challenges Porto, last Italian victory in Portugal since 2017

In the twilight of the Dragão, Porto welcomes Napoli and the team of Massimiliano Allegri, ready to write a new chapter in the history of Italian away trips in Portugal, after twenty meetings with only four wins, eight draws and eight defeats.

Porto hosts Napoli at the Dragão this evening and, in the same round, welcomes the side led by Massimiliano Allegri.

Allegri and the 2017 victory

The last Italian coach to secure three points on European away soil was Massimiliano Allegri, who in February 2017 with Juventus won 2‑0 thanks to goals from Pjaca and Dani Alves.

Allegri claims to know how to take over a stadium full of passion.

It has been almost ten years since any Serie A side has won at Porto's home, with four defeats and two draws in the last six encounters.

The only team to celebrate was Simone Inzaghi's Inter, which in March 2023 held the 0‑0 and qualified for the Champions quarter‑finals, eliminating Conceição's players thanks to the 1‑0 result of the second leg.

Allegri said in a conference: «It’s not the last beach. With 10 points you go to the playoffs. It’s an important match, Manchester is almost prohibitive. We play the round‑of‑16 tie with Club Brugge, Viking and Sabah».

These words partly relieve the pressure on Napoli, which will still have to try to secure the full haul despite the absences.
