Ancelotti rules out Neymar's return – door remains closed
After the round‑of‑16 exit at the World Cup, Neymar announced his retirement from the Brazilian national team, while head coach Carlo Ancelotti clarified today that the superstar will not return. Brazil were eliminated in the World Cup round of 16 against Norway, and the 34‑year‑old world star closed the door to the big stage.
Ancelotti confirms no comeback
The 67‑year‑old Italian, who serves as head coach, said: „He had earned it because of his qualities. [...] Neymar has already confirmed that he does not want to return to the national team. [...] Neymar is irreplaceable, because he was an extraordinary and unique talent. He is therefore a one‑of‑a‑kind player.“

Ahead of the World Cup, Neymar’s selection was heavily criticised because of his injuries. At the start of the tournament the attacking magician struggled with a calf injury and made only two appearances, even though he was considered a world star.
A few days ago Ancelotti announced his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Australia and India. Under his leadership he selected eight newcomers, while Neymar, his former protégé, was not included – a clear sign that the door to the national team remains closed for him.
His retirement is therefore final; the door to the national team is closed for the 34‑year‑old world star. Under Ancelotti’s guidance Brazil must now continue without the former king.
