Anderlecht hires Victor Bruno after Schreuder declines

🇧🇪

RSC Anderlecht confirmed Victor Bruno as its new head coach this week after 53‑year‑old Alfred Schreuder withdrew from a three‑season agreement that had been on the brink of completion. Sources close to the Dutch trainer said he was a hair’s breadth from signing the deal before opting out.

Alfred Schreuder, the Dutch coach, had been widely viewed as the frontrunner for the Anderlecht job. Schreuder previously managed Club Brugge before being linked with Anderlecht.

The decision left Anderlecht to restart their coaching search. Anderlecht then redirected its search toward a younger candidate.

Victor Bruno, aged 43, was unveiled this week as the club’s new head coach. The appointment was presented by Anderlecht officials as the final solution.

Bruno’s hiring follows directly after Schreuder’s refusal of the proposed deal. The club hopes the new coach can bring stability after the abrupt change.

Anderlecht’s board emphasized that the transition was completed swiftly. No further details on contract length were disclosed.
