Anderlecht's right-back crisis fuels chase for free agent Meunier
Thirty-four‑year‑old Thomas Meunier is a free‑agent after his Lille contract expired, and Belgian giants Anderlecht are eyeing him to cover the right‑back vacancy created by Ilay Camara’s foot‑fracture injury. The club, which also faces a leadership gap in a youthful squad, sees Meunier’s experience as a direct solution.
Camara’s injury, a broken foot, will keep him sidelined for multiple weeks, leaving Anderlecht without a specialist on the right flank. The club therefore requires a seasoned right‑back to maintain defensive stability.
Antwerp has also reached out to Meunier as it rebuilds after the departure of several key players and seeks to boost competition at right‑back. The Bosuil side views Meunier as both a quality on‑field addition and a locker‑room leader for its younger cohort.

Meunier, who resides in Brussels, brings 82 caps for the Belgian national team and a résumé that includes Club Brugge, Paris Saint‑Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Trabzonspor and Lille. At 34, his free‑agent status and extensive international experience match the profile Anderlecht outlined. Both Anderlecht and Antwerp have expressed concrete interest, and Meunier has previously indicated openness to a move back to Belgium, naming his former club, Anderlecht and Standard as possible destinations. "Every club may call me," he said when asked about a potential return to the purple‑white side.Anderlecht fans rally as former president eyes Antwerp takeover
Meunier, however, has placed his focus on the upcoming World Cup with Belgium and has reached clear agreements with national coach Rudi Garcia to avoid distractions. He will decide on his club future only after the tournament concludes.
