Antwerp secures future with Scott's extension amid turmoil
Royal Antwerp have secured German forward Christopher Scott on a new contract that runs until the summer of 2028, extending his stay by two seasons. The 24‑year‑old, who joined from Bayern Munich for about €1.4 million in 2022, now remains a core member of the Bosuil squad.
Since arriving in the summer of 2022, Scott has become a regular in Antwerp’s first‑team, tallying 86 appearances and eight goals. His ability to operate across the front line, especially on the left flank, and a current market value of €2.2 million have made him a valuable asset despite a season‑long loan at Hannover 96 to gain more minutes.
The extension arrives amid a turbulent phase for the club, with ongoing financial uncertainty surrounding owner Paul Gheysens and rumours of a potential takeover. Antwerp also remains without a permanent head coach, leaving several key projects on hold.
By locking in Scott for another two years, Antwerp demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a stable core despite off‑field instability. The move suggests the board is still working behind the scenes to build a squad capable of competing in the coming seasons.
For Scott, the new deal guarantees continuity and the chance to further cement his role in the Belgian Pro League. His contract through 2028 also positions him to increase his market profile, potentially attracting interest from larger clubs.
Should the club resolve its financial and managerial issues, Scott could become a cornerstone of Antwerp’s ambitions. Until then, the extension provides both player and club a measure of security in an otherwise uncertain landscape.
