Arbeloa under pressure at Fulham with no wins after six matches

Álvaro Arbeloa has been in charge of Fulham for six games and, despite two draws, the Spanish coach still has not known a win in the Premier League; the club sits in last place and the pressure from the fans grows each week.

League results and the threat of relegation

After six matches, Fulham has only managed two draws and still has not won, sitting at the bottom of the table. The final minutes have been especially painful: against Ipswich Town the team lost 1-2 after taking the lead with a goal from Sessegnon in the 55th minute, only to concede two goals in the 88th and 92nd minutes.

This trend repeats in other fixtures; the club let go of leads in stoppage time against Manchester United, where a goal from Cunha arrived in the 89th minute, and again surrendered in the final moments against Manchester United and Crystal Palace. Defensive frailty has doomed Fulham who, despite commendable draws against Liverpool (0‑0) and Manchester United (1‑1), lost 2‑3 to Crystal Palace and fell 2‑3 in their debut against Chelsea.

Glimpses of success in the League Cup

Although the league is a nightmare, Arbeloa has secured two wins in the League Cup, eliminating Wimbledon 3‑0 and beating West Ham 3‑2 at the West Ham Stadium. In the next round the team will host Crystal Palace, another Premier opponent.

Arbeloa's project was built with an investment of over €100 million in the latest transfer window, bringing in Gonzalo García (€40 million), César Palacios (€10 million) and Manuel Ángel (€4 million), all from Real Madrid, the club where Arbeloa played. In addition, Shea Charles arrived for €30 million and David Affengruber for €12 million.

Gonzalo García has established himself as a starter, scoring two goals, one in the Premier and another in the cup; Palacios started in the eleven but has fallen out regularly, while Ángel has only come off the bench on two occasions, the latest against Ipswich.

However, the arrival of the three Real Madrid players, who share an agency with Arbeloa, has caused unrest among some players, and according to The Telegraph part of the dressing room does not understand his methods and considers them too exposed.

The upcoming schedule offers an opportunity: Fulham will host Hull City at home and then travel to Coventry, both newly promoted sides also fighting to stay out of the relegation zone.

At Craven Cottage the fear is already palpable; the fans demand results before the threat of dropping to the Championship becomes inevitable.
