Arne Slot eyes Dutch job despite preferring club football

🇳🇱

Arne Slot, the former Liverpool and Feyenoord manager who was dismissed this summer, says he would regard the Netherlands national team job as an honour, Mikos Gouka reported on the AD Voetbalpodcast, even though Slot plans to stay idle and not join a club this season.

Slot confirmed he does not intend to take any club role this summer, preferring a break after his Liverpool exit. He remains at home after his Liverpool dismissal, awaiting any approach.

Gouka explained Slot’s stance. "I have understood that he does not want to do anything this summer and not join a club. He always says he prefers club football over international football, but I have no signals that he would never want to do the Dutch national team. On the contrary, I have understood that he would find it an honour to become national coach," Gouka said.

Gouka added that the decision is not straightforward, questioning whether Slot sees enough perspective in the squad and whether he could compete for trophies. He also asked whether the KNVB could offer a compelling project that would attract Slot’s ambition.

Other names linked to the vacant KNVB post include Peter Bosz, Pep Guardiola and Erik ten Hag. Their inclusion suggests the federation is weighing both domestic and international experience.

The contrast between Slot’s desire for a club‑football focus and his expressed openness to the Oranje role underscores a potential turning point for Dutch football, with the KNVB likely to gauge his interest before making an approach. If Slot accepts, his transition from club to international management could reshape the Netherlands’ tactical direction.
