Lucas Stassin, the Belgian striker loaned by AS Saint-Étienne to Sevilla, has had his health status confirmed by the medical staff of the Belgian national team, who validated the diagnosis communicated by Sevilla FC after the match on September 16 against Deportivo La Coruña.
Loan and promising start in Spain
During the last summer transfer window, AS Saint-Étienne completed a loan with an option to buy for the young centre‑forward, placing him under the colours of the Andalusian club. The transfer was presented as an opportunity to develop the player in a top‑level league. From his first match with Sevilla FC, Stassin opened the scoring, marking a very encouraging start.

Diagnosis and recovery outlook
A few days after his feat, Stassin was tackled in mid‑air during the match that ended in a 0‑1 defeat to Deportivo La Coruña. The incident forced the player off, preventing him from continuing his third appearance with Sevilla. Sevilla FC quickly announced that the injury was myofascial, affecting the long adductor of the right leg.
The Andalusian club’s statement read: “Sevilla FC player Lucas Stassin was injured during the match against RC Deportivo La Coruña… the Belgian striker suffers a myofascial injury to the long adductor of the right leg and remains under observation for progression.” The Belgian medical staff confirmed this diagnosis, emphasizing that the nature of the injury was identical to that described by Sevilla.
Lucas Stassin said he went to Belgium during the international break to consult the local medical team. “As they said, it’s practically the same as here: the injury will take some time, but it will be a good recovery,” he stated. He hopes to be available for the match against Levante, scheduled for October 12, and aims to return at 100 %.
In the meantime, the Belgian indicated he will miss the next three U21 matches. His loan remains in effect with the purchase option still active, and AS Saint‑Étienne is closely monitoring his progress to decide his future at the end of the recovery period.
