Aston Villa’s midfield boost: signing Norwegian talent Kamilla Melgård

🇬🇧

Aston Villa have secured the signing of 20‑year‑old Norwegian midfielder Kamilla Melgård from Spanish side Madrid CFF. The former Lyn Fotball Damer player, who logged more than 60 Toppserien appearances and recorded four goals with seven assists in her debut Liga F season, joins the WSL club ahead of the new campaign.

Melgård made her senior debut at just 15 years old, featuring in Norway’s top‑flight women’s league with Lyn Fotball Damer. Her early exposure paved the way for a move to Spain in 2024, when she joined Liga F side Madrid CFF.

Comfortable playing across midfield and attacking zones, Melgård contributed four goals and seven assists during her first season in Liga F. Her performances marked her as one of Norway’s brightest young talents.

On the international stage, Melgård has represented Norway throughout the youth categories. She is presently a member of the Norway U23 squad.

“I’m really excited. It feels like a good opportunity,” Melgård said, adding that she appreciates the facilities at Villa for further development. She expressed confidence that the club will allow her to focus on football and continue improving.

Director of Women’s Football Marisa Ewers welcomed the signing, stating, “Kamilla is an exciting young player with huge potential and we’re delighted to welcome her to Aston Villa.” Ewers highlighted Melgård’s proven quality in Norway and Spain and affirmed belief in her attributes to develop further at the club.

Melgård is set to bolster Aston Villa’s midfield options as the club prepares for the upcoming WSL season. Her progression will be monitored by both club and national team staff.
