AZ Alkmaar signs Jari De Busser to five-year contract
Jari De Busser, the 26‑year‑old Belgian goalkeeper, has officially joined AZ Alkmaar on a five‑year contract, moving from Go Ahead Eagles as announced by the Dutch club on its official channels. The move follows two seasons in Deventer where he kept nine clean sheets and earned Player of the Year honours.
After two seasons in Deventer, Jari De Busser signed a five‑year contract with AZ Alkmaar. The deal creates competition for the Dutch club’s other keepers Rome‑Jayden Owusu‑Oduro, Jeroen Zoet and Hobie Verhulst.
AZ’s scouting staff were convinced of De Busser’s abilities during the previous campaign, noting his reputation as a penalty‑killer. More than a year ago he helped Go Ahead Eagles secure a historic KNVB Cup final win by eliminating AZ.
De Busser arrived in 2024 on a free transfer from SK Lommel, initially serving as backup to Luca Plogmann. From the winter break he became the first‑choice goalkeeper, holding the position for a year and a half in Deventer.
In the most recent season he recorded nine clean sheets for Go Ahead Eagles. The club also celebrated a European highlight by defeating future Europa League champions Aston Villa.
The Belgian keeper was recently named Player of the Year at De Adelaarshorst, the home stadium of Go Ahead Eagles. The award underscores his impact during his tenure in Deventer.
