Barcellona’s three‑figure chase for Lautaro stalls in Milano

Rumours from Catalogna have again drifted to Lombardia as Barcellona discuss a possible move for Inter’s Argentine captain Lautaro Martínez, while manager Flick eyes a new striker after the complex Julian Alvarez saga. No tangible evidence has reached Milano yet, and Inter appear set to keep Lautaro central for the 2026‑27 season.

Barcellona’s renewed pursuit

For days in Barcellona there has been a flood of chatter about a new centre‑forward for Flick, and because securing Julian Alvarez has proved difficult, Lautaro’s name has resurfaced with alleged three‑figure offers circulating on social media and in various media outlets. Despite the buzz, Milano has not received any concrete proof of genuine interest.

Inter, known as the Nerazzurri, have signalled no intention of altering their market strategy; the club’s approach remains firmly Lautaro‑centric for the coming season. This stance suggests that even a confirmed offer would not shift their transfer policy.

Under coach Chivu, Inter will enter the 2026‑27 campaign with the Argentine captain heading a newly‑formed, surprisingly Anglophone‑leaning squad. Martinez is also expected to act as a spiritual guide for the British players whose hearts he broke in a semifinal a month ago.

Lautaro is widely respected across Europe’s major football offices, and interest from Barcellona is not new. Prior to the Covid era, Inter were described as being a millimetre away from playing at the Camp Nou.

Inter’s market stance and financial backdrop

Attempts to persuade Atletico Madrid to release Julian Alvarez for Flick’s side have been rebuffed, with the club delivering a final “no” to the proposed transfer.

Barcellona continues to grapple with a complex financial picture, burdened by substantial debt amplified by the Espai Barça project. In 2023 the club raised €1.45 billion to fund the new Camp Nou, with Goldman Sachs remaining its historic financial partner.

In 2025 the club refinanced €424 million of debt, extending part of the repayment schedule to 2050. Goldman Sachs is reportedly working on a new operation to ease stadium‑financing costs, while Barcellona seeks additional resources to complete construction.

The delicate financial equilibrium inevitably weighs on the club’s transfer ambitions, even as Lautaro pushes to retain his starting spot in the upcoming match against Monza.
