Barcelona banks on De Jong’s fitness despite World Cup injection saga
FC Barcelona expects Frenkie de Jong to be fit upon his return from vacation, even though the Dutch midfielder played the final two World Cup games against Tunisia and Morocco with injections, De Jong collided with Quinten Timber, who suffered a slight concussion while De Jong also left the session injured. The incident occurred before the World Cup and raised concerns about De Jong’s fitness.
Despite the setback, De Jong started in every World Cup match for the Netherlands. However, in the fixtures against Tunisia and Morocco he did so while receiving injections, as reported by Correas.
The World Cup has now concluded for the Netherlands, yet De Jong has not fully recovered from the knee injury sustained in the training clash. He is currently on holiday but is expected back at FC Barcelona within a few days.
FC Barcelona has expressed no alarm over De Jong’s condition, stating that he will train alongside his fellow World Cup participants as the season approaches.
At the end of July, FC Barcelona will face CE Europa and Birmingham City in two friendly matches. These games are part of the club’s preparation for the upcoming campaign.
La Liga kicks off for the reigning Spanish champions on 16 August with a home fixture against Athletic Bilbao. The schedule marks the start of the new season for FC Barcelona.
