Bayern eye winter transfer for Olmo despite €70 million price
FC Bayern Munich is reportedly considering the signing of Spanish world champion Dani Olmo from FC Barcelona in the upcoming winter transfer window and is weighing an offer of around 70 million euros, because the officials have growing concerns that other top clubs could become active for Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise.
Financial framework
The British broadcaster cites the fear that competitors could become active for Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise as the motive. Already in 2024, Bayern is said to have shown strong interest in Olmo after the Catalans had put a transfer fee of 61 million euros on the table.
Olmo's contract with Barcelona runs until 2030, so a possible transfer would make Bayern reach deep into their pockets. It is estimated that about 70 million euros would be required to release the Spanish international from the Spanish champions.
Player assessment and competition
Olmo is not without controversy in Barcelona's star‑studded attacking midfield; this season he has started only three of eight league matches in coach Hansi Flick's lineup, but he has already provided three assists in eight appearances.
Bayern watches Dani Olmo while eyeing Olise and Musiala's exits
Overall, after roughly two years at Barcelona he has recorded 20 goals and 20 assists in 96 appearances. On the international stage he became European champion in the last two major tournaments and then World champion.
At the last World Cup in North America, the 28‑year‑old Olmo was mostly a regular starter, made eight tournament appearances and contributed two assists.
Bayern already has a strong midfield with Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, Serge Gnabry, Ismael Saibari and Lennart Karl. Musiala has a lucrative contract until 2030, while Olise is tied to FC Bayern until 2029; sporting director Max Eberl stated that Olise is expressly unsellable.
Whether the German champions will actually submit an offer for Olmo remains to be seen, especially as the financial demands and the existing depth in the squad make the decision complex.
