Bernal's lifelong Barça pledge meets Alvarez transfer speculation
Marc Bernal reiterated his desire to spend his entire career at FC Barcelona, emphasizing his love for the club and his aim to become a key first‑team player, while also acknowledging the ongoing speculation surrounding a potential signing of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez.
Bernal is still rebuilding his fitness after the summer break, acknowledging that returning to full pre‑season shape is challenging. “Now I’m starting to train alone to get to the pre‑season well, because after a month of rest it’s a bit difficult.”
He said his personal objective for the upcoming season is simply to play as much as possible. “What we all want is to play as much as possible, and I prepare for that.” Bernal also noted that scoring goals, a skill he enjoyed since childhood, adds extra excitement, especially when they come at the Camp Nou.
Regarding Barcelona’s European ambitions, Bernal stressed the importance of maintaining the club’s identity in the UEFA Champions League. “Ultimately, the Champions League is a very tough competition, where the best teams play, and in the end it comes down to a two‑legged tie.” He added that the team must give their all in both legs without losing sight of their style of play.
When asked about the role of head coach Hansi Flick, Bernal expressed strong appreciation. “I’m very fond of him. He gave me confidence and supported me through my injury, which was really tough for me.” He also cautioned that, being very young, he does not see himself as a leader yet, given the presence of experienced teammates.
Bernal confirmed his desire to sign a lifelong contract with Barcelona, stating, “Yes, I’d sign up for that right now. That is what I want.” On the club’s pursuit of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, he said, “He’s a player I really like. He makes a real difference, but to be honest, I’ve no idea what’s going to happen – that’s not up to me. I’ll find out just like the rest of you.”
