Bosz's crossroads: PSV contract till 2028 versus Dutch coach hopes

🇳🇱
Ibrahim Afellay says Peter Bosz has not ruled out speculation about taking over the Netherlands national team, even though the Dutch coach recently extended his PSV contract until mid‑2028. The former PSV and FC Barcelona midfielder, a 53‑cap Dutch international, believes Bosz’s ambition is understandable. Bosz has been named as a possible successor to Ronald Koeman for the Dutch senior job. In February, he signed a contract extension with PSV that runs to the middle of 2028, and Afellay served briefly as his assistant at the club. Afellay told the media, “Undoubtedly. But you don’t know what agreements he has made with the club.” He added that any attempt by the KNVB to free Bosz would require negotiations with PSV. During an interview, Bosz grew irritated and walked away after the same question about the national team was asked repeatedly. He later remarked, “He can actually tackle everything by saying: no, for me it’s not an option.” Sjoerd van Ramshorst asked whether Bosz’s stance was deliberate, suggesting he would have said otherwise if it were not. Afellay replied, “I’m just the devil’s advocate, repeating what he now indicates: that it’s not an option because he has committed his mind to PSV for several years.” Afellay expressed empathy, calling the desire to become the Dutch coach “healthy ambition.” He noted that anyone who could lead the Oranje would see a queue of candidates eager for the role.
