Brazilian Neymar declares end of international career after 130 caps

Brazilian superstar Neymar announced today that he is retiring from the Brazil national team after 130 caps, declaring “My time is over” following Santos’ match against Universidad Central. The 34‑year‑old said he will no longer wear the yellow shirt and will focus on his club duties.

Neymar made his debut for the Seleção in 2010. Sixteen years later he has amassed 130 caps and scored 80 goals, making him the all‑time leading scorer of the five‑time World Cup champions.

His club career includes spells at Paris Saint‑Germain and FC Barcelona, where he further built his reputation. He later returned to his youth club Santos.

The 2026 World Cup proved disappointing for Brazil and for Neymar personally, as he entered the tournament unfit and could not contribute. Brazil were eliminated in the round of 16, losing 2‑1 to Norway under national coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Following that 2‑1 defeat, Neymar hinted that his international future was ending, a sentiment he has now confirmed.

“My time with the national team is over. I have made history and I was very happy. I have given my life for Brazil, I have always fought for the yellow shirt. Now I don’t want it anymore,” Neymar told the press.

He added that he will devote himself entirely to Santos and concentrate on his domestic career now that his international chapter is closed.
