Carlo Ancelotti bets on Hugo Souza, novices; Alisson stays in race
The Italian manager of Brazil, Carlo Ancelotti, announced the call‑up of Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza as well as two practically unknown young goalkeepers for Brazil's next two friendly matches, but the former starter Alisson, 33, is not yet excluded from the squad.
A rejuvenated Seleçao squad has been unveiled, with Fluminense captain Thiago Silva, 41, who maintains a step ahead of his peers.
"You can't rule out those who are 31, 32 or 33 and are having a good spell. With the Seleçao, you must not rush things," said the defender, who has earned 113 caps.
Average age revised downwards
Ancelotti indicated that the average age of the Seleçao fell from 28.6 at the 2026 World Cup to 25 for these upcoming friendly matches.
But Alisson, 33, remains in the group and is not yet out of contention, according to Ancelotti.
Brazil's two friendly fixtures will take place soon, giving Hugo Souza and the two young goalkeepers the opportunity to test themselves against international opponents.
Observers are waiting to see whether the newcomers will convince the manager before the next showdown.
