CBF launches goalkeeper scouting project to widen Brasil women's talent pool
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has unveiled a new initiative, ‘Em Busca da Camisa 1’, that will call up only goalkeepers for a training camp at the end of October, aiming to broaden the pool of talent for the Brasil women’s national team.
Thaís Lima, who grew up in the Portugal youth set‑up, attracted Brasil’s attention while still a teenager. Holding dual Portuguese‑Brazilian nationality, she entered the CBF’s radar and began the process of switching federations to strengthen the Brasil side.
Goalkeeper scouting scheme details
The ‘Em Busca da Camisa 1’ scheme will commence at the end of October and will feature a squad composed exclusively of goalkeepers. The CBF aims to select at least six keepers from each of Brasil’s regions, creating a broad geographic base.
Goalkeeper trainer Edson Junior said the project had been ‘much dreamed about by all of us’ and that the aim was to think beyond the present, preparing for the future of the women’s game.
Carol Gil of São Paulo has been called up, replacing Thais Ferreira, as the squad readies for its upcoming fixtures against Argentina. The selection reflects the CBF’s push to inject fresh talent into the goalkeeper pool.
Officials cite historic under‑investment in the women’s grassroots, a shortage of specialised coaches and the tendency for taller girls to be steered towards volleyball or basketball as reasons for the limited number of female keepers.
