Celtic chase record £11m deal for Danish striker Kasper Høgh

Celtic are moving to fill the void left by Daizen Maeda’s £10 million exit by targeting Danish striker Kasper Høgh. The 25‑year‑old forward from Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt is set to become the club’s record signing, with a fee reported to exceed £11 million and a medical scheduled within the next 24 hours.

Maeda departed for Ipswich Town in a £10 million deal, ending a successful spell in Glasgow. Martin O’Neill said the Japan international’s goals, energy and presence created a void the Hoops must fill.

As Scottish champions, Celtic aim to build a squad capable of competing on both domestic and continental fronts. O’Neill pointed to Høgh’s six goals in last season’s Champions League with Bodø/Glimt as proof of his ability to perform on Europe’s biggest stage.

After Celtic’s 2‑2 draw with AC Milan, O’Neill confirmed that talks with Bodø/Glimt were at an advanced stage. He added that the transfer cannot be declared complete until the contract is signed.

O’Neill indicated that Høgh’s arrival would be a strong start to the club’s rebuilding plan. He also hinted that Celtic could still pursue one or two additional signings to further strengthen the squad.

For Høgh, the move offers a chance to replace a departing star and to feature regularly in a league that regularly challenges in Europe. His proven record in the Champions League aligns with Celtic’s ambition to make an impact in that competition.

O’Neill praised Maeda, saying he will miss the Japan international but is delighted the player secured a move to a league he aspired to, such as the Premier League or Bundesliga.
