Cercle Brugge drops purchase options on four loanees
Cercle Brugge have decided not to trigger any of the four purchase options attached to players who joined on loan this season. The club finished in the bottom four but secured another Pro League season.
Pieter Gerkens and Dante Vanzier will return to Gent. Gerkens recorded six goals and one assist in 37 appearances, while Vanzier added two goals and two assists in 15 matches. Both will likely be moved on by Gent this summer.
Oluwaseun Adewumi will go back to Burnley. He featured in 33 games for Cercle Brugge, scoring six goals. Last season he was on loan at Dundee, where he netted five goals and supplied five assists. Adewumi’s contract with Burnley runs until 2028.
Oumar Diakite will rejoin Reims. The 22‑year‑old striker made 26 appearances, scoring seven goals. He is under contract with Reims until 2028 and has been called up by Côte d’Ivoire for the upcoming World Cup, meaning he will not return to Belgium with Cercle Brugge next season.
Cercle Brugge will therefore start the new Pro League campaign without any of the four loanees.
