Charleroi’s youth push gets a boost with PSV prodigy Yani Miguel
Sporting Charleroi have secured the signing of 17‑year‑old Belgian offensive midfielder Yani Miguel, who returns to Belgium after nine years in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven. The youngster signs a one‑year deal, with a second‑year option, and will initially be assigned to the club’s U23 side.
Charleroi’s recent emergence as a regular contender among Belgium’s elite youth squads has created a demand for fresh attacking talent. Adding a player with Miguel’s profile offers the club a chance to deepen its creative options in the midfield of the U23 outfit.
Miguel entered PSV’s academy in 2017 at the age of nine, having previously progressed through the youth setups of Vilvoorde, Grimbergen and Malines. He spent the next seven seasons climbing the Dutch club’s ranks, culminating in a professional contract in June 2024.
The June 2024 contract, signed at 17, placed him in PSV’s U19 side rather than the senior squad. During that season he featured in the Youth League, the under‑19 equivalent of the Champions League.
Several Belgian clubs monitored Miguel’s profile over the summer, aware of his desire to return home. Charleroi ultimately secured the signing, finalising a one‑year contract with an optional second year.
The agreement runs for a single season, with a clause that allows the club to extend the deal for a further year. Miguel will begin his Charleroi tenure with the U23 team competing in the D1 Amateurs.
Transitioning from the Dutch youth system to Belgium’s D1 Amateurs will require Miguel to adapt to a more physical style of play. If he can adjust quickly, the midfielder could become a key figure for Charleroi’s future senior plans.
