Como's €6m gamble on Liberali after deal leaves Milan fuming

🇮🇹

Como have secured the signing of Mattia Liberali from Catanzaro for a €6 million release clause, tying the 22‑year‑old forward to a five‑year contract. The move, confirmed by agent Alessandro Lucci, ends a tug‑of‑war with AC Milan over the promising talent.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Como, coached by Cesc Fabregas, placed significant faith in Liberali by offering a long‑term deal despite the player reportedly earning less than the terms Milan had proposed. The five‑year agreement reflects the club’s belief that the striker’s development will flourish in a stable environment.

The lakeside club saw Liberali as a key addition to bolster their attacking options in Serie A. His potential fit aligns with Fabregas’ tactical plans, prompting the club to activate the €6 million clause promptly.

AC Milan had initially hoped to sign the talent and integrate him under coach Ruben Amorim’s project. Daniele Longo reported that Amorim only became aware of Liberali’s situation yesterday and attempted to accelerate a deal.

However, Como had already reached an agreement with the player before Milan’s push, and Liberali kept his word on the move. He had previously been released by Zlatan Ibrahimovic twelve months earlier, adding a personal dimension to his choice.

The transfer leaves Milan annoyed, having missed out on a prospect they valued highly. For Como, securing Liberali secures a promising forward and demonstrates their willingness to invest heavily to achieve Serie A ambitions.
