Craig Gordon to become oldest player at World Cup

🇬🇧

Craig Gordon, 43, out‑of‑contract Hearts goalkeeper, will be the oldest player at this summer’s World Cup and the second oldest ever. He admitted he once thought the chance would pass him by.

Gordon described the moment as huge for any player’s career. He said the first weeks have been preparation and everything is going well. He added that the squad is now only days away from the tournament proper.

Nottingham Forest’s Angus Gunn played the full 90 minutes in Scotland’s 4‑0 win over Bolivia. Gordon and Rangers’ Liam Kelly each played a half in the 4‑1 defeat of Curacao.

Gordon said head coach Steve Clarke has given no indication on who will be the number‑one goalkeeper for the World Cup. He stressed the squad feels ready thanks to a strong bond and a blend of experience and youth.

Gordon noted that seeing young players emerge shows a bright future for the national team. He said early exposure will stand them in good stead for their careers and the team’s future.
