David Romero says he could fit Argentina Selección after Parma brace

David Romero, the 23‑year‑old Parma striker, said the Argentina Selección podría consider him after he opened the Serie A season with goals against Genoa and Como, hoping to earn a senior call‑up. He emphasised his desire to contribute and believes his recent form shows he can compete at the highest international level.

National team renewal

Olé reported that after the final loss to España and Messi’s emotional farewell from the Scaloneta, the Argentina national team will begin a rebuilding phase ahead of Copa América 2028, a tournament that could be staged again in Estados Unidos, and the Mundial 2030. The dual objectives underline the federation’s long‑term planning and open the door for fresh talent.

Lionel Scaloni’s contract extension is still pending, but the coach confirmed that Argentina will play two more fixtures before the year ends, with a November FIFA window scheduled though opponents remain unannounced. These games could serve as a platform to test new faces.

In the recent triple‑match window that marked Messi’s goodbye, Scaloni handed debuts to Román Vega, Valentín Gómez, Santiago Castro, Matías Soulé, Equi Fernández, Santiago Simón and Leonel Flores, signalling a willingness to integrate emerging players.

Romero’s Serie A impact

Romero, a native of Corrientes, arrived at Parma after a prolific spell with Tigre and has already found the net against Genoa and Como in Serie A. The ex‑Tigre forward’s brace against Como contributed to a 1‑2 victory, underscoring his early adaptation to Italian football.

“Regarding the Argentina Selección, I work to have the opportunity in the future, I think I could fit the conditions but I must improve in some aspects,” he told DSports Radio.

Despite his performances, Scaloni has not yet summoned Romero to the senior squad, although the striker has featured for the Argentine youth sides. He now dreams of taking the next step in his career.

Romero hopes his form will earn him a place in the upcoming November fixtures, where he could finally make his senior debut for Argentina.
