Divock Origi Retires at 31 After Milan Exit

Divock Origi has announced his retirement from professional football at 31. He confirmed the decision on social media after terminating his contract with AC Milan in December.

Origi's most celebrated moments came with Liverpool, where he scored a decisive double in the 4‑0 Champions League semi‑final comeback against Barcelona and added the winning goal in the 2019 final against Tottenham. His stoppage‑time winner in a Merseyside derby against Everton prompted Jurgen Klopp to sprint onto the pitch and embrace Alisson Becker.

He finished his Liverpool spell with 41 goals in 175 appearances, 68 of which were starts. Origi began his senior career at Lille before moving to Liverpool, where he lifted the Premier League trophy in 2020.

In 2022 he joined AC Milan on a free transfer and spent the 2024 season on loan at Nottingham Forest. The former Belgium international posted: "My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it. To my fans across the world who helped me shine: every iconic moment, every goal, every piece of history we made together will forever be ours.
