Early double puts Galatasaray in control at Rams Park Champions League

Russian midfielder Aleksei Batrakov struck twice within the opening fifteen minutes to give Galatasaray a 2-0 lead in their Champions League group match against VfB Stuttgart at Rams Park Stadium in Istanbul on 3 November 2026. The match, reported by Deutsche Presse-Agentur in Berlin, appeared under the Politics, War and Terror news banner. Galatasaray's Hungarian forward Roland Sallai and Stuttgart's Moroccan midfielder Bilal el Khannous were seen leaping to head the ball during the early exchanges.

Opening burst and missed chances

Stuttgart nearly silenced the home crowd when Jamie Leweling's effort struck both posts early in the game. A defensive lapse by Jeff Chabot allowed Batrakov to pounce inside the penalty area and fire a powerful shot into the top corner. The 21‑year‑old doubled Galatasaray's advantage in the fifteenth minute by slipping the ball through goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow's legs. Chris Führich thought he had reduced the deficit, but a video review ruled his effort out for offside.

The defeat left Sebastian Hoeness' Stuttgart in eighth place after four of eight league‑phase matches, putting their automatic round‑of‑16 qualification at risk. Stuttgart face another difficult test later this month when they travel to Inter Milan.

Elsewhere, Sporting Lisbon climbed to fifth place after a 1‑0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, with Issa Doumbia scoring the decisive goal. The Ukrainian side, sitting eighteenth in their domestic table, hosted the match at Stamford Bridge in London. Sporting were guided by interim coach Tiago Fernandes, while Lyon's Paulo Fonseca is expected to replace Rui Borges as permanent manager. Seven more Champions League fixtures were scheduled for later Tuesday, including Bayern Munich's visit to Atlético Madrid and Paris Saint‑Germain's trip to Villarreal. Manchester United manager Michael Carrick faces mounting pressure ahead of his side's upcoming home game against Roma.
