Emergency in Buenos Aires for Pablo Osvaldo, former Squadra Azzurra star

At forty years old, the former striker of the Squadra Azzurra, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, is today fighting for his survival in a hospital room in the suburbs of Buenos Aires after an emergency operation that removed two centimeters of lung tissue.

Medical emergency in Lavallol

Admitted on absolute emergency to the municipal hospital of Lavallol, the former Italian‑Argentinian scorer was taken care of thanks to the providential intervention of his sister. A violent lung infection, complicated by a pleural effusion, required major surgery. The surgeons had to remove two centimeters of lung tissue to contain the disease.

Placed in intensive care, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is now lucid but remains under close monitoring with a guarded prognosis. His family breathes a sigh of relief that the surgeon “took him in time”. The account, published by journalist Guendalina Galdi in, testifies to the extreme seriousness of the situation.

A glorious past and a brutal fall

Former striker of the Squadra Azzurra, he wore the jerseys of Juventus, AS Roma and Inter Milan, earning fourteen caps for Italy and a championship title with Juventus in 2014. His notable stints span seven different trans‑Alpine clubs. He ended his top‑level career in 2020, which triggered a spiral of self‑destruction.

After swapping his boots for an electric guitar, stadium whistles for saturated amplifiers and the footballer’s kit for a Johnny Depp‑style pirate outfit, he founded the rock band Barrio Viejo. The band was set to celebrate its ten‑year anniversary on October 31, but the guitar chords fell silent to the sound of intensive‑care monitors.

In March 2024, Osvaldo released a moving video in which he confessed his destructive addiction to drugs and alcohol, stating: “The man I have become today is someone I no longer recognize. I am asking for help because I cannot get out of this on my own.” Despite psychiatric follow‑up, relapses have again fractured his daily life.

The nickname “Dani” Osvaldo is back today in calcio discussions, his former teammates holding their breath hoping he finds the strength to snatch his greatest victory. Fans and the football community are awaiting reassuring news.

Hope remains high that the wanderer overcomes this ordeal and returns, even if only symbolically, to triumph on the thread of life.
