Enrique Riquelme Emerges as Real Madrid Future After Election Loss

🇪🇸

Florentino Perez secured another term as Real Madrid president. Enrique Riquelme lost the election but emerged as a future contender. Perez will remain in charge until at least 2030.

Riquelme launched a full campaign five years after first deciding to run. He invested significant effort to build visibility among Real Madrid members. He satisfied the strict €190 million financial guarantee required for candidacy. The campaign proved he has the resources and structure to challenge for the presidency.

Riquelme’s proposed sporting plan placed Raul in a leading role. Fernando Hierro was identified as a potential figure within the academy setup. Former club icons Iker Casillas and Vicente del Bosque were linked to positions reinforcing the club’s traditional identity. He also mentioned Rodri and Erling Haaland, stating, “If I am president, these 2 players (Rodri and Haaland) will play for Real Madrid.”

Riquelme intends to remain visible among the Real Madrid fanbase between election cycles. He will monitor discussions on ownership structures and major institutional changes as part of his long‑term strategy. Photo by Angel Martinez and Denis Doyle.
