Euro 2024 under scrutiny as raids hit German FA headquarters
German authorities carried out raids at the headquarters of the German Football Association (DFB) today, as part of a wide‑scale probe into alleged corruption surrounding Euro 2024, according to the German . The operation also included checks on municipal buildings and city administrations in the host cities.
Investigators are focusing on a 66‑year‑old German man and a 46‑year‑old Frenchman. Both are suspected of distributing several thousand tickets and hotel invitations to privileged individuals.
The French official was responsible for relations with the host cities and is alleged to have invited heads of the Euro 2024 offices to high‑profile matches. His role reportedly included arranging access to top‑tier games for officials.
The German suspect is linked to the semi‑final between Spain and France, from which he allegedly gained a financial benefit of about €2,400, covering travel and hotel costs. He has previously been in contact with police on suspicion of fraud, wage withholding and embezzlement.
Herbert Reul, minister of the Interior of North Rhine‑Westphalia, said, “A football ticket does not belong to anyone’s salary. Anyone in the public sector who raises their hand for perks will be visited by us.” He added that large events such as the Euro rely heavily on public trust in the authorities that enable them.
The operation began at 16:21, as noted in the latest update. An additional update posted at 16:43 confirmed the raid details.
