FC Copenhaga break historic Parken barrier against Braga

Under the bright lights of Parken, FC Copenhaga produced a scene few had imagined: a 3-0 victory over SC Braga, marking the Danish club’s first ever win against a Portuguese opponent on home soil. The win arrived after a season that saw Copenhagen finish seventh and fight to retain top‑flight status.

Historic first win at Parken

Until this match, Copenhagen had never beaten a Portuguese side at Parken. The triumph therefore carried symbolic weight as well as three points. Earlier in the weekend, a loss at Midtjylland had narrowed Copenhagen’s lead at the top of the Superligaen to just two points, raising the stakes for the European encounter.

Bo Svensson’s side entered the game with palpable energy, pressing Braga from the first whistle. Svensson, whose 4‑2‑3‑1 formation has yielded an average of 2.4 goals per league game and 17 goals in Conference play‑offs, sought to translate domestic urgency into European dominance.

Tactical battle and key moments

Braga, managed by Carlos Vicens, deployed a hybrid 3‑5‑2 that gave midfielders Moutinho, Tiknaz and Gorby a strong physical presence. By halftime the Portuguese side enjoyed 63 percent possession, completing 301 passes to Copenhagen’s 169, and created more clear‑cut chances.

Despite the possession edge, Braga’s consistency faltered. In the second half, Elyounoussi sparked Copenhagen’s breakthrough, scoring within five minutes of the restart. His follow‑up threatened again when he isolated Alex Král with a deft back‑heel.

Veteran striker Cornelius added two composed finishes, exploiting the disorganisation in Braga’s defence during the natural ebb of the match. Braga’s goalkeeper Travassos remained alert, denying a certain goal before the final whistle.

Braga’s recent struggles and future outlook

Since their Europa League semi‑final exit in Fribourg, Braga have failed to win eight of their last fifteen matches, a run that has left their domestic campaign in a precarious state. Vicens responded by reshuffling his lineup, introducing Gabriel Silva and Pau Víctor, and moving Ricardo Horta into a more central role within a 3‑4‑3 shape.

The Portuguese side also saw a disallowed goal after a VAR review, highlighting both their attacking intent and lingering defensive frailties. After the match, Braga’s president António Salvador reiterated confidence in Vicens, urging supporters to stay united and promising improvement.

Looking ahead, Copenhagen will travel to the Estádio da Pedreira for their next fixture against Gil Vicente, while Braga aim to regroup and restore confidence in the Primeira Liga.
