Fenerbahçe president rejects Ismail Kartal’s resignation

Ismail Kartal, coach of the turquoise Fenerbahçe, submitted his resignation immediately after the 1-1 draw against Roma in the Champions League, but the president of the club, Aziz Yildrim, rejected the decision, confirming the role of him at the helm of the team.

During the post-match press conference, broadcast by beIN Sport Turkey, Kartal announced his resignation, causing great surprise among those present.

“I resign and I will not return”, declared the 65-year-old coach.

Kartal, 65, was appointed head coach of Fenerbahçe in June, a little over three months before the clash with Roma.

President Aziz Yildrim then stated that the coach will remain in the position, saying: “Kartal is at the beginning of his mission. We support him.”

The words of the president were spoken in front of the cameras of beIN Sport Turkey, confirming the decision of the club.

With Yildrim’s confirmation, Kartal remains at the helm of Fenerbahçe for now, maintaining technical continuity in the European stage.
