Fenerbahçe receives strong criticism of Lukaku after 6-0 defeat to Aston Villa

While the stands of the Turkish stadium were still shaking from the 6-0 defeat, harsh criticism of Romelu Lukaku was already sounding. The Belgian striker, who only entered the field shortly before the seventieth minute, immediately became the subject of a heated debate on the Turkish talk show Asist Analiz.

Criticism from the Turkish media

Sinan Engin, former Besiktas player, began his argument with the question whether Lukaku is ashamed. He claimed that the striker, since his arrival, does not look in the mirror and should no longer have any diet. Engin urged the striker to enlist a dietitian and a personal sports coach.

Fenerbahçe‑selection and injury‑problem

Earlier, the medical staff of Fenerbahçe had identified injuries in Lukaku, Marco Asensio and N’Golo Kanté. As a result, Lukaku and Kanté started on the bench, while Asensio remained completely out of the match selection. Lukaku only came onto the field shortly before the seventieth minute, but could not reverse the 6-0 defeat.

Reaction to the Champions League‑outcome

The Turkish top club lost in England 6-0 to Aston Villa in the Champions League. After the match, Fenerbahçe's performance and Lukaku's contribution were scrutinized, with Engin wondering how the striker could have scored so many goals in his career.
