From Anderlecht bench to Torino staff: Biglia’s Italian comeback

🇮🇹
Former Anderlecht assistant and long‑time midfielder Lucas Biglia, 40, has secured a staff role at Serie A side Torino for the upcoming season, after resigning from his assistant post at Anderlecht following Besnik Hasi’s dismissal; Torino finished 12th in last season’s league. Biglia amassed 303 appearances for RSC Anderlecht between 2006 and 2013, a period during which he helped the club reach European competition. His tenure at the Brussels club also saw him transition from player to one of Besnik Hasi’s trusted assistants. On the international stage, Biglia was part of Argentina’s starting eleven in the 2014 World Cup final against Germany, lining up beside Javier Mascherano and tasked with shielding Lionel Messi, the team’s No. 10. In Italy, Biglia represented Lazio from 2013 to 2017 before moving to Milan AC, where he played from 2017 to 2020, gaining extensive experience in Serie A. His familiarity with the league is further reinforced by his former teammate Ignazio Abate, a former Milan right‑back, now on Torino’s bench. Biglia also explored a coaching opportunity with Belgian side Eupen, but unclear intentions from the German‑speaking club led him to accept Torino’s offer; Eupen subsequently appointed Felice Mazzù as head coach. As the new season approaches, Biglia will join Torino’s coaching staff, bringing his Belgian and Italian experience to a club that finished 12th in Serie A last campaign.
