Harry Kane set to stay at Bayern despite Barça’s €100m striker hunt
Harry Kane is set to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich despite Barcelona’s €100 million approach for the England striker.
The 32-year-old’s current deal with the Bundesliga champions runs until the summer of 2027. Barcelona, searching for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, reached out to Kane’s representatives to gauge his availability this summer. However, Kane has made clear his preference to remain in Munich.
Kane’s decision follows a prolific 2025/26 season at Bayern, where he scored 61 goals and provided seven assists in 51 appearances across all competitions. In November, he stated it was “very unlikely” he would leave the club at the end of the season. His representatives also confirmed that Kane would not activate his release clause this summer, a decision communicated to Bayern in January.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed contract talks with Kane were ongoing as early as January. The club’s latest update suggests a resolution is near, with Kane poised to extend his stay. Barcelona’s inquiry has not altered his stance, despite their urgent need to strengthen the No. 9 position.
For Barcelona, Kane was never their top target. Their priority remains Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid, but negotiations have stalled due to Los Rojiblancos’ reluctance to sell. With Álvarez’s transfer prospects uncertain and Kane unavailable, Hansi Flick and Deco face a difficult market search.
The situation leaves Barcelona with limited options as they attempt to rebuild their attack ahead of the new season.
