Horror season of bad luck for Jamie Gittens after new ankle injury

Jamie Gittens suffers another unlucky horror season after injuring his ankle during the U21 international break. The English winger, who moved from Borussia Dortmund (BVB) to FC Chelsea in the summer of 2025, had to leave the pitch already in the 39th minute. The injury also puts his standing with the London club under pressure.

The transfer was completed in the summer of 2025 for €56 million. Gittens left the BVB and joined the London club Chelsea, where he has since received few playing opportunities.

In the starting XI of the English U21 national team against Kazakhstan, alongside Jamie Gittens were Jobe Bellingham and Ethan Nwaneri. While his teammates saw the match out, Gittens had to leave the field already in the 39th minute.

A video on X showed the Englishman leaving the stadium on crutches. According to sports journalist Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail, Gittens had injured an ankle, meaning he had to leave the U21 team and return to Chelsea.

Limited appearances for the London club

For the Blues, Gittens has so far made only two appearances this season, both in the Carabao Cup. He has not yet played a minute in the Premier League. Last season he featured in 27 games for the London club, only three of which he completed the full 90 minutes.

The new injury further hampers his progress at Chelsea and leaves it uncertain when he will be fit to play for the London club again. Consequently, his future in the English top‑flight remains unclear.
