Julian Duranville leaves Dortmund, Lyon beckons a new chapter

🇧🇪
Julian Duranville ends his three‑year spell at Borussia Dortmund, departing despite a contract that runs to 2028. The 20‑year‑old Belgian winger announced the exit on Instagram, marking the conclusion of a €13 million move that took him from Anderlecht to Dortmund in January 2023. Borussia Dortmund secured Duranville’s services from RSC Anderlecht for €13 million in the winter window of 2023. The club hoped the young flank player would add pace and creativity to its attacking options. During his time in Germany, Duranville featured in 27 Bundesliga matches, registering one goal and one assist. Injuries limited his ability to cement a regular starting place. In the second half of the 2024‑25 season he was loaned to Swiss side FC Basel, but struggled to rediscover the form he displayed at Anderlecht. The loan spell did not result in a permanent move. Duranville earned his first senior cap for the Belgian national team, the Rode Duivels, in 2024 under coach Domenico Tedesco. He has since been a regular call‑up for the Belgium U21 side. Duranville addressed his supporters on Instagram, expressing gratitude for his time at the club. He wrote: “Mijn tijd bij BVB is voorbij. Het was een eer om deze kleuren te dragen en deze club te vertegenwoordigen. Ik ben ontzettend dankbaar voor iedereen die me tijdens deze periode heeft gesteund en geholpen. Dank voor alles.” For Duranville, the departure offers a chance to restart his career in a new environment. Dortmund frees a squad slot and can redirect resources toward other attacking prospects.
