Kane wins Ballon d'Or, Mbappé second

Harry Kane seized the Ballon d'Or on Monday evening in London after gathering the most votes. The English striker thus became the fifth Englishman to win the award, and the first since Michael Owen in 2001. His victory confirmed the expectation that he was the favourite for the world award.
Second place for Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé proved to be Kane's main rival and finished second, claiming the silver medal. The French forward was ranked by the voting as the best player after Kane. Around the top‑five, Rodri was also in fourth place and Lionel Messi in fifth.
In sixth place finished Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, followed by Erling Haaland in eighth, Michael Olisé in ninth and Fabián Ruiz in tenth. Ousmane Dembélé, the title holder, ended this year in seventh, while the previous winner Rodri from two years ago was fourth.

Yamal wins Talent of the Year
Lamine Yamal completed the podium as number three and also received the Talent of the Year award. The young Spanish winger thus became the first in his age group to claim both bronze and an individual talent distinction.
Kane is the fifth Englishman to claim the Ballon d'Or, after Stanley Matthews (1956), Bobby Charlton (1966) and the late Kevin Keegan (1978 and 1979). His victory marks a new chapter in English football history.
