Kartal vows to expose ‘fake fans’ after Lyon Champions League win

Fenerbahçe head coach Ismail Kartal lashed out at so‑called ‘fake fans’ after his side’s 1‑2 win in Lyon, saying he will name those who criticised the team following the Champions League group stage match.

Kartal made the comments in the post‑match press conference, expressing frustration at former players, journalists and supporters who he felt were overly negative after the first‑leg against Olympique Lyon in France (Frankrijk).

He reminded listeners that the club had earned 99 points in the 2023/24 season, a figure he said had not brought a league title, and urged genuine supporters to step forward.

Kartal warned he would publicly identify each detractor by name, challenging anyone claiming to be a Fenerbahçe fan to prove their loyalty.

Turkish daily Milliyet suggested Kartal should stop referencing the 99‑point tally and focus on the recent Lyon victory, which brought both revenue and prestige to the club.

The newspaper also highlighted goalkeeper Ederson’s performance, noting he saved five of six shots on target at Groupama Stadium, earning the nickname ‘Panther of Lyon’.
